JOB TITLE: Research Accounting Intern
LOCATION: St. Paul
PAY RATE: 16.50
HOURS: flexible; guaranteed 5 hours/week, up to 20 hours/week during academic year; hours welcome during the summer; we would like an intern to start now to provide overlap with graduating seniors, but we are hiring primarily for the 2026-2027 academic year
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is part of the Research Administrator Internship program, funded by an award from the National Science Foundation. Despite the growth of grant-funded research, there are few programs that specifically prepare students for careers in Research Administration. Interns will receive training in topics such as proposals, compliance, budgeting, and reporting, as well as participate in monthly group activities designed to gain an understanding of the breadth of the field. They will also have opportunities to attend and co-present at regional/national research administration conferences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in preparing various reconciliations, reports, surveys, and other projects as assigned
- Prepare monthly accounting journal entries and other analysis
- Scanning documents, filing, and data entry
- Undergraduate student majoring in Accounting
- Minimum requirement: successful completion of Intro to Financial Accounting
- Must be detail-oriented and self-directed with the ability to work independently
- Excellent organizational skills required
- Willingness to ask questions
- Must be sensitive to confidential matters
- Experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Have an interest in the research enterprise
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
