Job Description

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Division Manager, or designee, the Superintendent of Maintenance is responsible for all the facility, revenue vehicle, and equipment maintenance of the division including the repairs of buses; overseeing all maintenance activities of employees on all shifts daily; using the Oracle Maintenance System to schedule repairs, ensuring all work is done in accordance with Pace policies, procedures, and standards. Duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring the quality of work, productivity, and attendance.
  2. Instructing and training employees, while providing technical expertise to assist and support staff. 
  3. Running and analyzing reports. 
  4. Diagnosing bus problems. 
  5. Overseeing the facility to ensure it is clean, functional, safe, and secure.
  6.  Handling grievances and other labor relations matters; ensuring vehicle availability for AM and PM pullouts as well as all special services. 
  7. Scheduling proper staffing for preventative maintenance, other maintenance, and repairs. 
  8. Working with vendors on warranties and repairs.
  9. Locating and ordering replacement parts. 
  10. Reviewing timecards and timesheets. 
  11. Scheduling and planning facility improvements. 
  12. Reviewing and approving purchase orders.
  13. Employee recruiting, hiring, performance reviews, and discipline. 
  14. Reviewing the maintenance department budget.
  15. Assisting with maintenance budget and manpower planning. 
  16. Reviewing purchasing activities related to the buses and the facility.
  17. Performing other duties as assigned or required. 

 

Qualifications

Age:

21+

Education:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent or technical school and/or Pace mechanic training; associate degree or bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Experience:

Must have at least four years prior experience with diesel/gas vehicle maintenance and repair, electrical, suspension and hydraulic systems, DOT regulations, and preventive maintenance, prior transit maintenance experience is preferred.

Must have at least two years supervisory and/or management experience, knowledge of the collective bargaining agreement is preferred. 

Must have a good work record with excellent attendance.

Certifications:

Must have or be able to obtain a valid Class "A" CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements within 6 months of hire date.

Must have or be able to obtain a DOT medical examiners certificate, ASE, NGV, EPA 609, 608 UST A, B, C, and forklift certifications within 6 months of hire date. 

Profeciencies:

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to read and follow schematics and maintenance manuals.

Must have and demonstrate good team-building and interpersonal skills; and must be organized and demonstrate excellent time management skills. 

Must have basic proficiency with Microsoft Office suites applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel, and with the Oracle Maintenance System. 

Physical Requirements:

This position entails walking, bending, stooping, and lifting and/or sometimes moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

This is a safety sensitive position.                                                                                                  

Working Conditions:

Work is frequently performed in a shop environment where the candidate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, substances, and waste, and loud noises. Work may sometimes be performed outdoors or in the field, where the candidate would be exposed to extreme cold and/or extreme heat. Work is also performed in an office environment where the candidate may sit for an extended period and type on a computer.

This position is not eligible for hybrid schedule or telecommuting.

Salary:

Full Salary Range: $73,543-$168,797

Midpoint: $121,170

Anticipated Starting Salary: $97,356-144,984

Pace provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their long-term growth potential. The final salary will depend on the candidate's qualifications. This position is subject to revolving door provisions of the Illinois State Officials and Employees Ethics Act
