Job Description

Job Title: Transmission Lineman 1st Class

Department: Operations

Reports To: General Foreman

FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

Work Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week.

 

Position Purpose:

 

Transmission 1st Class Lineman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of transmission lines. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Capable of leading crew members in the absence of the Foreman
  • Installs transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear
  • Installing and maintaining transmission lines including new construction and maintenance
  • Ability to perform light distribution, (cover up, moving wire, storm response)
  • Running new wire and maintaining old wire
  • Installing new lines and performing repairs including energized stick work, pole assembly, conductor installation and operating equipment
  • Setting towers and poles
  • Reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints
  • Digging trenches, climbing poles, towers etc. to perform duties
  • Troubleshooting and repairing systems as required
  •  Collaborating with team members to accomplish projects on time and within budget 
  •  High level working knowledge of linework safety, grounding, and heavy equipment operation
  • Be able to plan and coordinate work efficiently and safely
  • Must be able to effectively conduct a pre-job or tailgate briefing
  • Does all other related work as required to complete the job

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; and reach with hands and arms.

 

Work Environment:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum 3 or more years of recent field experience
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver License and Acceptable driving record
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English
  • Able to travel long distances at short notice, when required
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required
  • Able to lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE
  • Willing to work overtime when requested
  • Willingness to glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines
