General Summary:



The ASC Staff RN provides direct nursing care to patients by performing pre-operative assessment and preparing the patients for surgery in accordance with facility and organizational policies, meeting the standards of professional nursing practice, as well as intraoperative care and post-operative care.  This person is accountable for using his/her experience and judgement/nursing skills to plan for the appropriate care for his/her patients.  Consistently remains calm and applies judgement during stressful situations, always putting the needs of the patient first.



 




  • Nature of supervision received:  Direct supervision from nurse manager, indirect supervision from anesthesiologist, CRNA and physicians.

  • Interacts with:  Patients and family, visitors, physicians, nursing staff, radiology, sales representatives, students, clerical staff and administration.



 



Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients.  Maintains working knowledge of techniques and principles of nursing care to ensure complete and competent care of patients.

  • EHR documentation is clear, concise and complete. 

  • Collaboration with patient/family and members of the healthcare team.  Acts as a patient advocate with others.

  • Complies with all safety and infection control standards/policies.

  • Complies with all surgery center policies and procedures.

  • Follows all nursing standards and protocols.

  • Assures patient confidentiality at all times.

  • Exhibits flexibility in areas of assignment.

  • Follows procedures and practices related to pain management assessment and identification of abuse and neglect.

  • Follows all OSHA Safety, Fire and Emergency Preparedness guidelines.

  • Performs other functions as requested by the Nurse Manger to include but not limited to, stocking and maintaining adequate supply levels, end of day narcotic counts and patient chart reviews.

  • Collaborate with physicians on orders and reviews lab values, EKG’s and x-ray reports

  • Document care/charges that is given to patient

  • Provide prescribed medications and ither pharmaceutical products in accordance with physician’s orders

  • Remain prepared for emergency situations ensure to utilize correct emergency procedures, locations of emergency call system and location of emergency supplies and equipment

  • Administers medication and performs treatments to assigned patients

  • Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment
