Position Overview

The Precast Concrete Laborer supports the production and handling of precast concrete products such as stairs and jersey barriers. This role involves setting up and preparing concrete forms, tying rebar, operating loaders and forklifts for loading finished products, and assisting with patching and quality inspections.

 

The position requires maintaining a clean and safe work environment, performing general housekeeping, and participating actively in safety programs. The ideal candidate will have construction experience, familiarity with precast or concrete plant operations, and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

 

Responsibilities

  • Set up concrete forms and molds.
  • Prepare concrete forms by tying rebar.
  • Operate a loader and forklift to load trucks with concrete structures such as stairs and jersey barriers.
  • Strip and clean concrete forms.
  • Operate vibrating and hand held tools.
  • Assist Concrete Finishers in patching and repairing cured products.
  • Inspect concrete products such as stairs and jersey barriers to ensure product quality.
  • Perform general housekeeping and yard work.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment at all times.
  • Participate in RMC safety program and initiatives including reporting and identifying hazards, participating in safety meetings, wearing PPE, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Valid class 5 drivers’ license and clean drivers abstract.
  • General construction experience.
  • Prior experience working with precast products, in a concrete plant, or within an manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • CSTS Certification is preferred.
  • WHIMIS training is preferred.
  • First aid certification is an asset.

 

Hours of Work

  • This position operates on 12 days on and 2 days off schedule.
  • Overtime may be required to support operations from time to time, especially during the busy construction season.

 

Work Environment

This position primarily works in a plant environment and sometimes outdoors. PPE is required at all times while working at the plant including long sleeves, long pants, reflective stripes, and CSA approved steel toed boots. This position will work outdoors and may be exposed to the elements.

 

Physical Demands
The position is physical in nature and requires bending, crawling, crouching, and standing for long periods of time. Materials are heavy and cumbersome. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
