Development Specialist (Roster)

Department: Parks and Recreation
Hourly Rate: $18.50
Schedule: Monday – Friday (20 hours/week)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

  • Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
  • Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.  
  • Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

About the Role

The Development Specialist provides administrative and operational support for the Department’s Resource Development Section, working closely with nonprofit partners such as Greensboro Parks Foundation and Greensboro Beautiful.

This position is essential to ensuring accurate gift processing, effective donor stewardship, and reliable data management across fundraising and engagement efforts. The role supports campaigns, events, and communications that help build awareness and generate resources for community programs and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and record donations with a high level of accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain donor database integrity and ensure accurate recordkeeping across all fundraising activities.
  • Support donor stewardship efforts, including acknowledgments, communications, and relationship tracking.
  • Assist with fundraising campaigns, sponsorships, memberships, and grant-related activities.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for development events and community engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support resource development goals.
  • Assist with communications and outreach efforts to increase public awareness and engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit administration, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with donor databases or CRM systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing customer or stakeholder relationships.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or a related field.
  • Two (2) to four (4)+ years of experience in nonprofit development or fundraising support.
  • Experience with CRM platforms such as Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, or eTapestry.
  • Experience with email marketing tools such as Mailchimp.
  • Experience supporting fundraising campaigns or events.
  • Knowledge of 501(c)(3) fundraising practices.
