Job Description

SUMMARY: 
To assist the Director of Facilities as the Maintenance Technician – Electrical in the daily operations and activities of the maintenance and custodial departments with a focus on achieving efficiently run maintenance projects and operational functions. 


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 
Hourly 12-month, support staff position. Typical workdays are 8 hours in length, with occasional work occurring outside normal working hours during the week and weekends. The position may also involve work during support staff holidays. 


 


WORKING CONDITIONS: 



  • Work is mostly field related in sometimes harsh environments throughout the district facilities.   



  • Work is often performed in dusty environments with exposure to chemicals and high voltage electricity. 


 


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • General computer knowledge needed for maintenance and employee portal software utilized by the Mifflinburg Area School District  



  • Possess a strong customer focus  



  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in school maintenance and construction  



  • Knowledge of electrical, construction and/or plumbing trades  



  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the maintenance/construction trades  



  • Ability to utilize equipment and tools of the maintenance/construction trades  



  • Ability to troubleshoot and determine solutions for the repair of maintenance problems  



  • Ability to work off ladders  



  • Be available to work evening and/or weekend hours when necessary  



  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver License and ability to drive all school maintenance vehicles and equipment  



  • Current Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances; as well as Mandated Reporter training requirements. 


 


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 



  • High School Diploma and/or Equivalent experience in at least one trade (Certificate of completion and/or Associate's degree in one of the construction trades preferred)  



  • Minimum of 2 years' work-related experience in one of the construction trades   



  • Public School Experience (preferred) 


 


SPECIFIC POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 


In conducting this role, the essential duties of the Maintenance 3-11 position shall include, but are not limited to the following:  



  • Use of technical skills to provide a safe, comfortable, and productive place to learn and work.  



  • Use of technical skills to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Electrical and Mechanical devices, equipment, and systems throughout the district facilities  



  • Assist with installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance of electrical related equipment (lighting circuits, light switches, exit lights, receptacles, fans, motors, pumps, lamp replacement, etc.)  



  • Assist with installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance of HVAC-R related equipment (chillers, boilers, hot water heaters, air conditioners, filters, fans, motors, pumps, valves, etc.)   



  • Assist with installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance of plumbing related equipment (commodes, urinals, flush valves, faucets, drains & drain lines, washers & packings etc.)  



  • Assist with the assembling, relocating, installation, and set-up of furniture, bulletin boards, white boards, picture frames, tables, chairs, etc.   



  • Assist with general maintenance including snow removal, grounds work and field preparation as time permits.  



  • Be responsible for the ongoing and preventive maintenance of the facilities. Maintenance duties include but are not limited to (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, all phases of grounds work, etc.)  



  • Perform construction and renovation projects as directed.  



  • Be helpful, courteous, and polite to all occupants and visitors of the buildings.  



  • Maintain proper security of all district owned facilities.   



  • Report all safety hazards and repair needs to the immediate supervisor in writing.   



  • Be available to work overtime as events and emergencies dictate.  



  • Perform other duties as directed by the administration.
