Job Description

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports to the Clinical Coordinator, the Housing Specialist is responsible for serving as a liaison with DHS, Real estate Brokers and other housing providers to facilitate the housing process for all divertible assessment clients.

This includes:

  • Assisting in the Enhanced One Shot deal, and other HRA related housing benefits processes
  • Copying and the distribution of all housing applications, maintaining correspondence relating to housing interviews and vacancies
  • Assisting clients to coordinate their move with landlords and other key personnel.
  • The position is responsible for a caseload of housing placement clients, for tracking trends in housing placements and orienting clients with the housing group.
  • Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed. Related duties as assigned.

 

HOURS:

37.5 hours per week

  • Sunday, Monday, Wednesday 9:00am – 5:30pm, Tuesday & Thursday; 12:00pm – 8:30pm

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in processing housing applications, such as: NYCHA, Section 8, and NY/NY required.
  • Significant experience working with clients on the issues of homelessness, addictions, mental illness, entitlements and housing.
  • Demonstrable writing, communication and group facilitation skills.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • BA/BS preferred. Some college and work experience may be substituted in lieu of a four-year degree.
  • Bi-lingual (English/ Spanish) preferred.
  • CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR.
