Description
Plant Operation & Batching
• • Operate the Erie Strayer MG-12CP central-mix plant and associated systems (cement silos, aggregate stackers, water heaters, dust collection, and water reclamation) in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Sunmat standard operating procedures.
• • Execute batch tickets through the Command Alkon Integra 10 batching system and Apex dispatch platform; verify mix design, load size, target slump, air content, and admixture dosing prior to release.
• • Calibrate and verify scale accuracy daily; maintain moisture probe calibration on fine and coarse aggregate bins; document all calibration activity in the plant log.
• • Coordinate cement, fly ash, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, lightweight aggregate, and admixture deliveries; verify quantities, monitor silo levels, and prevent commingling or cross-contamination of raw materials.
• • Adjust mix designs in real time within authorized tolerances to compensate for ambient temperature, aggregate moisture, and slump-loss conditions; escalate any out-of-tolerance condition to the Plant Supervisor and QC.
Quality Control & Specifications
• • Produce concrete in strict conformance with approved mix designs, ASTM C94, ACI 301 / 318, and Micron-issued project specifications.
• • Coordinate with the Sunmat QA/QC team and field testing technicians on sampling, slump and air checks, temperature monitoring, cylinder casting, and rejection thresholds; will not release any load that fails to meet acceptance criteria.
• • Manage hot- and cold-weather concreting protocols using the Sioux water heaters and American Geothermal hot water system; document concrete temperature at the point of discharge for every load during temperature-controlled placements.
• • Maintain accurate batch records, ticket archives, mix design files, and material certifications in audit-ready condition.
Mixer Truck Dispatch & Customer Service
• • Dispatch and stage mixer trucks across the 40-unit fleet to meet placement-rate requirements established by the GC and the field placement crew; balance pour demand across the three plants on site.
• • Communicate clearly and professionally with Suntec field crews, Layton Construction field staff, Micron representatives, and third-party testing agencies via radio and dispatch systems.
• • Track truck cycle times, in-truck wait times, and discharge times; flag chronic delays and propose dispatch adjustments to the Plant Supervisor.
Environmental Compliance & Water Management
• • Operate the OZB CRS water reclamation system and HDPE-lined process water containment in full compliance with the site's stormwater and process water management plans; ensure zero discharge of untreated process water.
• • Maintain compliance with IDEQ Air Permit P-2023.0026 at all times: monitor and verify operation of the C&W RA-200 central dust collectors, silo vents, baghouse differential pressure, and all permitted opacity limits; log all required parameters.
• • Operate the Vortomech steam generators within manufacturer and permit limits; maintain logs for the de minimis water-heating equipment.
• Promptly report and document any deviation, upset condition, exceedance, or near-miss to the Plant Supervisor, Environmental Lead, and QA/QC Technical Advisor.
Safety & Site Stewardship
• • Comply with all Suntec, Sunmat, and Micron safety policies, including site-specific PPE, lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, and hot work requirements.
• • Conduct daily pre-shift inspections of the plant, conveyors, stackers, silos, dust collection, water systems, and surrounding work areas; tag and isolate any unsafe condition.
• • Complete digital JHAs and pre-task plans through Safety Culture (iAuditor) at the start of each shift and any time conditions change.
• • Maintain housekeeping standards across the plant pad, truck wash area, aggregate storage area, and reclaim system.
Maintenance & Reliability
• • Perform routine operator-level preventive maintenance: greasing, belt inspections, hose changes, pneumatic system checks, and cleanup of mixers, weigh hoppers, and conveyors.
• • Coordinate with the Sunmat maintenance team and equipment vendors (Erie Strayer, C&W, Kraft Tank, Sioux, Vortomech, OZB) on warranty work, scheduled service, and unscheduled repairs.
• • Operate the BE Power Equipment electric truck wash system and the Elgin Waterless Eagle street sweeper as needed to maintain site cleanliness.
• Document equipment runtime, alarm conditions, and downtime causes in the Sunmat plant availability reporting system.
Records, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
• • Complete daily plant production reports, batch volume summaries, raw material inventory counts, and shift handoff documentation.
• • Contribute to plant KPIs in the five Sunmat performance categories: Safety, Environmental Compliance, Plant Availability, QA/QC, and Gray Water Recycling.
• Identify and recommend process improvements that increase throughput, reduce waste, or improve mix quality; participate in shift-change toolbox talks and continuous improvement reviews.
Requirements
Required
• • High school diploma or equivalent.
• • Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience operating a central-mix or transit-mix concrete batch plant; experience on Erie Strayer or comparable high-volume plants strongly preferred.
• • Working proficiency with Command Alkon Integra and Apex, or demonstrated ability to become certified within ninety (90) days of hire (training provided).
• • Working knowledge of ASTM C94, ACI 301 / 318, mix design fundamentals, and admixture chemistry.
• • NRMCA Concrete Plant Operator Certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
• • Valid driver's license; ability to obtain Micron site access credentials and complete all owner-required orientations.
• Ability to read, interpret, and execute concrete mix designs, batch tickets, project specifications, and equipment manuals.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable on a two-way radio across multiple channels in a high-volume placement environment.
Preferred
• • Experience on large-format semiconductor or industrial mission-critical projects (Micron, Intel, TSMC, Samsung, or comparable).
• • Experience with mass-concrete pours, lightweight concrete, low-shrinkage mixes, and high-early-strength designs.
• • Familiarity with IDEQ air permitting and stormwater/process water compliance requirements.
• • Experience with water reclamation systems (OZB, BFK, or equivalent).
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 General Industry / Construction certification.
Summary
The Concrete Batch Plant Operator is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient production of ready-mix concrete at the Sunmat ID2 batch plant facility serving Micron Technology's ID2 fabrication campus in Boise, Idaho. The operator runs one of three Erie Strayer MG-12CP central-mix plants, controls all batching activities through the Command Alkon Integra and Apex platforms, dispatches the mixer truck fleet to the point of placement, and ensures every cubic yard produced meets Micron specifications, ASTM standards, and the requirements of IDEQ Air Permit P-2023.0026.
This is a high-volume, high-accountability role on one of the most demanding semiconductor concrete supply operations in North America. The operator is the front-line steward of mix quality, environmental compliance, plant uptime, and customer service. Sunmat operates these plants directly — there is no third-party operator buffer — so the operator's judgment and discipline directly determine the success of the project.
