Job Description

Job Title: Grounds Keeper/Landscaper                                                    


Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt


Reports to: Director of Facilities                                                                           


Pay Grade: 4


Dept. /School: Facilities                                                                          


Days: 247


Supervises: None


 


           


Primary Purpose:


To maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping


 


Qualifications:



  • Basic grounds maintenance knowledge


 


Education/ Qualifications:



  • Must have a high school diploma or GED

  • Valid Texas driver’s license


 


Special Knowledge/Skills:



  • Ability to read and understand written instructions

  • Ability to communicate verbally

  • Ability to operate tractors and/or landscaping equipment

  • Ability to operate riding and/or power mowers, power tools, gas and/or electric weed trimmers, blowers, edger’s, sprayers, striping machines, post hole augers, hand tools, aerators and light duty trucks or vans

  • None


 


Reports to: Grounds Foreman


 


Major Responsibilities and Duties:



  • Mow and detail the grounds and around fence lines, parking lots exterior buildings etc.

  • Care for trees, shrubs and /or any vegetation (including any turf areas) by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching and controlling unwanted grass or weeds

  • Plant shrubs and vegetation

  • Provide proper care for all flowerbeds

  • Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish and remove from district buildings and grounds

  • Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed district safety procedures and report any unsafe working conditions that are not correctable to your supervisor

  • Transport equipment to work sites throughout the district

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting and carrying. Working outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and/or fertilizers) and loud noises. Frequent districtwide travel
