Position Summary

UNM Linguistics Department Navajo Language Program anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate/graduate level course Navajo Linguistics in Spring 2024.

Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching including but not limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, content delivery, assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the Director of the Navajo Language program.

Position is contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements.  Position may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidate selected for this position will report to the Navajo Language Program Director.

Qualifications

To teach courses as described above, applicants must meet the Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met in one of the two following ways:
1. Bachelor's Degree or higher in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.

                                               OR

2. A master’s degree or higher in a discipline related to but other than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. 1. Bicultural; ability to interact comfortably in an all Navajo speaking environment, with Navajo language teachers, and second language learners of Navajo in a single class setting, ability to interact
2. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate and understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
3. Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues.
4. Experience teaching students with various levels of knowledge of Navajo language and linguistics..
