Wake Veterinary Hospital and Urgent Care in Knightdale, N.C. is in need of Emergency Veterinary Technicians (Swing Shifts)

Full-time, Part-time, or Relief

Swing/Weekend Availability

***Overnight shifts receive a $2.00/hr shift differential.***

WVH&UC has a current opening for a full-time, experienced Registered Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency department.

Emergency Department Veterinary Technician Duties:

  • Provide nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians
  • Triage incoming patients
  • Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs
  • Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency, specialty, and hospitalized patients
  • Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring
  • Observe patients and recognize changes in status
  • Place peripheral and central catheters
  • Restrain patients for exams and treatments
  • Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
  • Maintain urinary catheters
  • Bandage removal and application
  • Perform suture and drain removal
  • Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
  • Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
  • Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
  • Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
  • Basic wound cleaning and care
  • Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
  • Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log
  • Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia
  • Obtain samples for and perform in-house laboratory testing
  • Client communication and education
  • Patient triage and discharge
  • Hospitalized patient care

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 1+ years of experience in the veterinary field
  • Preference will be given to an individual desiring to pursue a degree in veterinary technology or animal science
