ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR TASKS:
- Use the computer to follow the portal of projects and orders; prioritize orders as needed
- Use of e-mail to check for special order requests/general communication
- Operate a forklift to move a pallet or gather lumber as needed
- Utilize saws to cut the wood material to the correct length according to the blueprint/cut list. Equipment used includes an up-cut saw, table saw, panel saw, and chop saw.
- Use a tape measure to ensure proper length or to collect dimensions for a special project/pallet
- Assemble the pallet per blueprint utilizing an air nail gun, various other pneumatic tools, and various other basic hand tools
- Ensure quality of all products and fix pallets as needed
- Use a standard pallet jack, cart, or forklift to move the raw material or finished pallets
- Communicate with co-workers on priority project, raw material needs, or tool issues
- Work in a manner in which safety, quality and cleanliness are top priorities
- Assists other shipping and receiving personnel as needed
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Continuous lifting and carrying of items under 10 pounds such as tools, lumber and pallets
- Continuous handling and gripping of nail gun, hand tools, or lumber
- Continuous standing and walking on concrete floors
- Continuous use of near vision while working with wood, reading prints or the computer
- Frequent use of depth perception as assembling or cutting with the saws
- Frequent lifting and carrying of items under 50 pounds such as tools, lumber, and pallets
- Frequent pushing and pulling of pallet jack’s, carts, and stock bins
- Frequent twisting while cutting and assembling wood
- Occasional lifting of items over 50 pounds, team lift or mechanical device encouraged
- Occasional fine finger movements while typing or installing hardware
- Occasional reaching below the shoulder for objects and seldom reaching above shoulder
- Occasional 1 foot action while operating a forklift or operating the up-cut saw pedal
- Occasional bending/stooping/crouching while working close to the ground
- Seldom carrying of items over 50 pounds, team lift or mechanical device encouraged
- Work environment in inside a closed woodshop with sawdust ventilation control. Woodshop temperatures can fluctuate with the season, noise is continuous, it can become slippery with dust, and hazardous machines with sharp blades are present.
- Personal protective equipment required for this position includes safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and gloves as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PREREQUISITES:
- Some carpentry or woodworking experience preferred
Skills
- Some basic computer knowledge including use of e-mail
- Experience using saws, pneumatic and basic hand tools
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Good blueprint reading skills
- Basic assembly and spatial reasoning skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
Certificates, licenses, training, or other job-related requirements
- No current restrictions prohibiting regular lifting up to 50 pounds
- No current restrictions prohibiting infrequent lifting up to 100 pounds
