Job Description

The Associate Business Development Director leads business development activities for the WuXi Discovery Chemistry Division in Switzerland and Italy. The role focuses on driving revenue growth, identifying new business opportunities, and managing key accounts as assigned by management. Success in this position requires strong market insight, strategic execution, and close collaboration with cross‑functional teams including Marketing, Project Management, Technical Groups, and Operations.

 

This role is remote in Europe, preferably in Switzerland.

The title will be either Senior BD Manager, Associate Business Development Director or Business Development Director, depending on a candidate's experience level.  

  • Acquires new customers from an assigned geography, and/or a set of prospects.
  • Leads all aspects of specific companies and/or territory account integration processes, while calling upon other company sales resources to assist in solution development, proposal delivery, and implementation, as needed or as directed by management.
  • Assists in achieving full integration of key account procurement systems.
  • Sells company products and services to assigned opportunities.
  • Refers opportunities for growth in products and services to other sales teams as appropriate.
  • Manages new customers’ implementation resources by managing customers’ expectations and satisfaction with the implementation process.
  • Assist other sales and services resources when called upon by the WuXi Chemistry Business Development leadership team.
  • Works collaboratively with other functions such as the marketing team to support the business needs and achieve company goals.

Accountabilities and Performance Measures

  • Achieves assigned PO quota
  • Achieves assigned supplier and customer onboarding goals
  • Meets assigned expectations for customer coverage
  • Achieves new account acquisition targets
  • Completes required training and development objectives within the assigned time frame 

Experience / Education:      

  • University degree or equivalent, chemistry preferred, from an accredited institution, advanced degree preferred
  • Prior experience in drug discovery industry (sales or scientific) is required.
  • Prior track record of achievement in positions with significant accountability
  • This position may require frequent travel (car, train, plane)
  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and passport and have the right to work in mainland Europe
  • PC proficiency
  • Whilst a minimum 3 years of outside sales experience in the pharmaceutical/drug discovery/fine chemicals industry, is preferred, this would also be an ideal position for a discovery chemist with commercial acumen to move into a sales role

  • Able to close deals, effectively utilizing internal resources as required.
  • Demonstrated abilities in the areas of listening, negotiations, teamwork, and persuasiveness.
  • Track record of handling difficult situations and posing solutions that led to turnaround or success.
  • Coordinates with other BDs or scientific counterparts to provide appropriate solutions to clients.
