    Position Description
    Regional School District No. 1 is seeking a compassionate and skilled 2:1 Registered Nurse (RN) to support medically complex students in a special education setting during summer school. Responsibilities include providing nursing care during the school day and on the school bus, while helping students safely access their educational program.

    Qualifications

    • Current, unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Connecticut; proof of licensure required
    • Applicants must submit proof of current Connecticut LPN licensure, current CPR/AED/First Aid certification, and official or unofficial transcripts from their nursing education program with their application
    • Minimum of two years of experience in school nursing, pediatric private duty, public health, emergency room nursing, or a related field preferred
    • Experience working with medically fragile or special needs students preferred, including familiarity with:
      • Cerebral palsy
      • G-tube feedings
      • Seizure disorders
      • Respiratory disorders
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

    Performance Responsibilities

    • Provide personal care, assistance, and supervision as needed, including:
      • Toileting and brief changes
      • Grooming, hygiene, and dressing/undressing
      • Nutrition and hydration through G-tube feedings, when ordered
      • Wheelchair transfers and positioning
      • Use of adaptive equipment, as prescribed and under the direction of the physical therapist, including standers, wheelchairs, walkers, and adaptive chairs
    • Provide nursing services during the school day and at school-sponsored activities, as assigned
    • Monitor student health status and respond appropriately to emergencies based on nursing assessment and established care plans
    • Maintain student safety and confidentiality at all times
    • Participate in planning meetings and collaborate with teachers, therapists, administrators, and families as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • Ride transportation with student to and from programming. 

    Working Conditions

    This position follows the special education summer school (June 22 - July 17), Monday through Friday, 5 hours per day, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. / Transportation 8:15 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.
