Position Description

Coordinates and develops a schedule of activities with the Youth Sports Operations Coordinator that specifically meet the needs of the participants and the goals of the FIRE Track and Field program to allow for maximum program participation.

Operational Excellence

  • Under the direct supervision of the Youth Sports Operations Coordinator, initiates and executes track and field programs, makes decisions regarding skill curriculum, practice plans, program evaluation, assessment of participant’s progress for functional age appropriate activities in the area of track and field.
  • Coordinates and develops a schedule of activities with the Youth Sports Operations Coordinator that specifically meet the needs of the participants and the goals of the FIRE Track and Field program to allow for maximum program participation, identifies barriers that hinder a participant’s success, and implements all reasonable accommodations.
  • Implements age and skill appropriate activities to allow for maximum participation to meet the needs of individual participants.
  • Takes initiative to coordinate schedule of activities with multiple site staff.
  • Informs Youth Sports Supervisor of supplies needed.
  • Represents the Park District in a friendly and positive manner when communicating with program participants, parents/guardians, staff, and all other program visitors.
  • Attends scheduled meetings as determined by the Youth Sports Supervisor.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of department safety procedures. Attends safety training programs and educational in-service opportunities as required, and enforce rules and regulations set-up by the Rockford Park District.
  • Gathers, loads, transports and sets-up supplies and equipment for the program sites, including inventory and maintenance with support from program staff.
  • Enforces all rules, regulations and policies set up by the Rockford Park District to include the Affirmative Action Plan, maintaining an alcohol and drug free workplace, and following all safety and risk management procedures.
  • Assists the FIRE Coordinator and Head Coach in organizing the participants when arriving and departing from program.
  • Assists in practice planning in advance for the FIRE Coordinator and Head Coach on a weekly basis.
  • Signs-in, meets, greets, and communicates with the FIRE Coordinator and Head Coach.
  • Attends quarterly training in-services to enhance the knowledge of the skills being taught. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education/Experience

High School Diploma or Equivalent; 1 - 2 years of work experience in recreation or related field. Some experience working and interacting with children ages 5-15. Some experience or interest in interacting with youth or teens with and without disabilities in a recreation setting preferred.

 

Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent; 1 - 2 years of work experience in recreation or related field
  • Working knowledge of best practices for Track and Field performance.
  • Must be available to work Monday-Thursday evenings. 
  • Some experience working and interacting with children ages 5-15
  • Some experience or interest in interacting with youth or teens with and without disabilities in a recreation setting preferred.
  • Ability to communicate one-on-one and in groups
  • Proficient in the skill area of FIRE Track and Field and ability to adapt teaching technique considering different abilities and skill levels.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Provide basic training to other staff on specific area of skill responsibility.
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations
  • Ability to provide customers with expert care, sensitive consideration and efficient service.
  • Good communication skills including expressive, written, and receptive.
  • Ability to follow direction from FIRE Track and Field Coordinator or Youth Sports Supervisor, demonstrating flexibility as a team player.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions, including situations involving program participants, staff conflicts and dissatisfied customers.
  • Ability to problem solve in a variety of situations.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED training (can be obtained through Rockford Park District).
