Job Description

This is a remote position.

We’re building an organic engine to match our paid growth — and we need an editor who can turn great ideas into scroll-stopping short-form videos.

As the Organic Video Editor for our natural health book brand, you’ll work closely with our founder and Organic Social Media Strategist to produce high-performing content for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Your job is to bring the strategist’s scripts and briefs to life with pacing, storytelling, and edits that maximize retention and shares.

About the Role

Your focus is to get lots of views by mastering the first principles of short-form editing:
hook → retention → payoff → shareability.

You won’t be responsible for coming up with all the ideas (the strategist owns that), but you will own the execution quality — turning raw footage + assets into videos that look native to each platform and feel “can’t-look-away.”

Key Responsibilities
  • Edit 9:16 short-form videos for TikTok, IG Reels, and YouTube Shorts (and occasional 1:1 or 16:9 as needed).
  • Turn content briefs/scripts into engaging edits with strong hooks, fast pacing, and clean narrative flow.
  • Add platform-native captions (timed well), on-screen text, b-roll, sound effects, and pattern interrupts to boost retention.
  • Source/select supporting visuals (b-roll, stock, screenshots, product/book shots) when needed.
  • Maintain consistent brand vibe while still editing “native” to trends and formats.
  • Organize project files, naming conventions, versions, and exports to keep production fast and clean.
  • Collaborate with the strategist on feedback loops (what’s working, what’s not) and iterate quickly.
  • Deliver multiple variations (hook options / first 3 seconds / caption styles) when testing.

What We’re Looking For
  • You’re retention-obsessed — you notice where people drop off and know how to fix it with pacing and structure.
  • You have a strong feel for TikTok/IG/Shorts editing language: hooks, jump cuts, overlays, story beats, payoff.
  • Fast, reliable, and responsive — you hit deadlines and communicate clearly.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback and producing quick iterations without ego.
  • Strong attention to detail (captions, timing, audio levels, formatting, export settings).
  • Tools: CapCut, Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci — any is fine as long as results are great (CapCut familiarity is a plus).

Bonus points if you:
  • Have edited content in health/wellness/education niches.
  • Know how to repurpose one concept into multiple platform variations.
  • Have a system for batching and scaling output.

Screening Questions (Please Answer)
  1. Share 3–5 examples of short-form videos you edited (links). For each, what was your role and what were the results (views/likes/follows), if known?
  2. How do you approach editing the first 3 seconds to maximize retention? Give a specific breakdown.
  3. What does a “great” short-form edit look like to you? What are common mistakes that kill performance?
