Position Summary:
The teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Saint Andrew’s policies. 

We seek dynamic individuals who are collaborative and innovative in their approach to teaching and who work to create an inclusive and supportive classroom and school-wide culture. Qualified candidates will have experience teaching a variety of subjects within an English Department. The teacher will be an effective advocate for students and will collaborate with colleagues in the department to ensure the best possible learning experience. The position includes teaching four sections of English courses, facilitating one section of Writing Lab, and leading an Upper School advisory group. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Implements instructional activities that foster student engagement, meaningful learning, and continual student growth and achievement. 
  • Designs assessments and scaffolding for assignments that incorporate the writing process.
  • Creates descriptive rubrics and commits to providing students with meaningful and timely feedback.
  • Collaborates with peers to prepare course material such as syllabi, homework assignments, and assessments to advance a  curriculum, including AP and IB, if applicable.
  • Partners with peers to plan, evaluate, and adjust curricula, course content, and methods of instruction.
  • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
  • Communicates effectively and consistently, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and coworkers.
  • Uses effective classroom management techniques to ensure students work in an environment conducive to learning.
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits, such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating activities, and planning instruction.
  • Maintains expertise in subject matter through independent learning, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Stays current with technology advances to determine applicability to the classroom.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
