    QUALIFICATIONS:           

    Minimum of B.A. degree.  Alaska Teacher certification in specified subject area in which employed. Standards-based instruction experience preferred.       

    REPORTS TO: Building Principal     

    JOB GOAL: Nome Public Schools recognizes a teacher as a person whose prime function is to communicate knowledge with special methods and completeness for the development of physical, mental, and moral growth of the students served.  In recognizing this responsibility it is agreed that the act of progressive teaching carries with it many consistent characteristics, which are identified below.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1.  Minimum teaching day of 7.5 hours a day.  Provisions will be made to allow a minimum of 30 minutes for lunch.
    2.  In addition, teachers are expected to devote time and responsibility to support extra-curricular activities of the school program.
    3.  Teachers are to maintain class records of pupils' achievement and attendance and to complete all reports required by district and building administrators.
    4.  Instructional Responsibilities:
                a.  Adequate classroom preparation demonstrated in lesson plans
                b.  constructive classroom management
                c.  varied instructional and evaluative techniques
                d.  identification of individual differences
                e.  Understands developmental levels and implement communication appropriate   developmental practices
    5.  Staff Relationships- Teachers should maintain a high level of professional conduct when dealing with staff, students, and parents in accordance with the Code of Ethics stated in the Professional Teaching Practices Commission Handbook.
    6.  To comply with all School Board Policies specified in School District Personnel Policies-all written directives of the superintendent, and other supervisors. 
    7.  To comply with provisions of other job descriptions related to the teacher's specific assignment.
    8.  Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Principal, assistant principal and/or Superintendent may assign.

    EMPLOYMENT TERMS:     188-day year with salary and other conditions of employment to be established by the Superintendent and the School Board.
