Description
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing and managing safety programs to ensure a safe working environment within the manufacturing plant. This role involves conducting safety training, inspections, and risk assessments, as well as ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and company policies. The Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in promoting a culture of safety and preventing workplace accidents and injuries.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures that comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company standards.
- Conduct safety training sessions for employees, including new hire orientation, refresher courses, and specialized training on topics such as hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and emergency response.
- Perform regular safety inspections and audits of the plant to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance issues. Document findings and work with relevant departments to implement corrective actions.
- Ability to triage minor 1st aid incidents and escalate care following predetermined guidelines.
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses to determine root causes. Prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures to avoid future incidents.
- Ensure the plant is in compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, and other relevant safety laws. Keep up to date with changes in safety regulations and communicate these changes to the relevant parties.
- Lead and participate in safety committees and meetings, fostering collaboration between departments to improve safety practices and address safety concerns. Promote a culture of safety throughout the organization by encouraging safe work practices, recognizing safe behavior, and addressing unsafe behavior promptly.
- Ensure the proper use and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all employees. Conduct regular checks to ensure PPE is being used correctly and is in good condition.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety training, incidents, inspections, and corrective actions. Prepare reports and present safety metrics to management.
- Must be willing to cross train against machinery in plant, LOTO, and operation of equipment found in the facility.
- Must be capable of supporting a multilingual, multi-shift workforce.
Required Skills:
- Basic understanding of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and best practices in workplace safety. Familiarity with hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively train employees, report to management, and collaborate with other departments.
- Attention to detail to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to perform accurate data entry, maintain safety records, and evaluate data trends to support compliance and continuous improvement.
- Strong problem-solving skills and with training provided assess risks, investigate incidents, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lead safety initiatives, influence a safety-focused culture, and motivate employees to adhere to safety protocols.
- Coaching mind set, ability to provide positive reinforcement and ability to coach in support of the objectives above.
- Capable of using with moderate proficiency, basic office equipment (copiers, scanners, mobile equipment devices, computers). Training provided on specific devices.
Minimum Experience & Education:
- 1-year previous experience in a safety-related role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment, is required.
- A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Desire to obtain certifications, such as OSHA 10, OSHA 30-hour certification
- Additional safety certifications, such as First Aid/CPR/AED training will be provided.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred but not required. *Please note this is a multilingual site. Translation support is available.
Physical Requirements
- The position requires regular physical activity, including walking, climbing, bending, sitting, stooping, twisting, pushing, pulling, and inspecting equipment and facilities.
- Lift up to 40 pounds
- Stand on concrete floor for up to 10 hours a day.
POSITION INFORMATION
- This position pays $20.00-$27.00 per hour depending on experience
- Work Schedule: Mon- Fri 7:00am – 3:30pm OT may be necessary
