About the Department

Do you enjoy working outdoors and want a hands-on job that makes a visible difference in your community? The City of Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is hiring to fill the temporary role of Forestry Professional/Technical Worker to help maintain the health, safety, and beauty of Lincoln’s urban forest. This position performs a variety of skilled work tasks to maintain tree safety and health throughout Lincoln. 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Performing a variety of skilled work tasks to maintain tree safety and health throughout Lincoln
  • Leading organized, engaging, and effective swim lessons

What We're Looking For
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather and adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
  • An interest in trees and tree biology

Compensation and Pay: Starting at $18.00 per hour. Pay is issued by direct deposit only. Candidates must have a valid bank account registered in their name in order to receive wages. *This is an unclassified (temporary) position and not eligible for benefits.

Schedule: 40 hours per week, generally 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday- Friday.

Desirable Training and Experience
  • First Class Arborist License OR ISA certification
  • CDL License, Class A or B
  • Nebraska Pesticide Applicator license, Categories 00, 04
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid state issued Driver's License and good driving record
  • Knowledge and use of arboricultural techniques and safety procedures or demonstrated interest in learning
  • Knowledge and use of operating and maintenance procedures for various arboricultural equipment and tools
  • Knowledge and Microsoft Office Suite
  • High School diploma or currently in school
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs

Our team manages 168 parks, 185.9 miles of trails, 97 playgrounds, over 83,000 street trees, nine public pools, six recreation centers, five golf (and disc golf) courses, five dog runs, a nature center, and beautiful public gardens. Our programs include recreation summer day camps, before and after school programs, clubs and classes for individuals with special needs, adult and youth team sports, nature-based classes and events, swimming lessons, wellness and fitness classes for all ages, and a variety of free events and classes for all ages.
