English Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: 



  • Massachusetts Licensure: English, 5 - 12, required

  • SEI Endorsement, preferred 

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment, required

  • Master’s Degree, preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of English at the secondary level

  • Demonstrated experience in the successful motivation of students at varying levels of achievement

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable or appropriate


 


RESPONSIBILITIES:


 



  • Under the direction of the Department Head and in collaboration with department colleagues, develop curricular objectives and implementation strategies in alignment with the learning standards of the state curriculum frameworks.

  • Under the direction of the Department Head and in collaboration with department colleagues, design, implement, and revise curricular units as well as develop a clear and consistent grading rubric for courses.

  • Under the direction of the Department Head and in collaboration with department colleagues, develop daily and long-range plans for each course taught relating instruction to the needs of the students, curricular objectives, English department expectations, and state learning standards.

  • Effectively advance excellence and equity in each class through instructional practices designed to meet the unique needs of students who are advanced, multilingual English language learners as well as the accommodations and modifications for students qualifying for a 504 plan or special education services.  

  • Implement a variety of instructional techniques to ensure student engagement, growth, and achievement.

  • Keep accurate and appropriate grading and attendance records.

  • Develop effective relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Combine a concern for effective relationships with students with strong interests in the subject.

  • Evaluate each student's progress in English skills, knowledge, and understanding.

  • Using available media, routinely communicate with students, families, colleagues, counselors, and administrators regarding each student’s individual progress.

  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.

  • Effectively employ classroom management strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

  • Accept supervision and guidance from the Department Head and Principal.

  • Assume necessary supervisory responsibilities when required.

  • Attend professional meetings as required and scheduled.

  • Serve on committees for curriculum revision and for the general operation of the school.

  • Continue professional growth by attending meetings, seminars, courses, and other endorsed professional learning.

  • Cooperate with principal, colleagues, and families in extra-curricular activities.

  • Such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal, Department Head, and/or Director of Teaching & Learning.

SALARY:  In accordance with the FEA Unit A Contract
