QUALIFICATIONS:




  1. Valid Missouri LPN or RN license




  2. Current CPR & first aid certification




REPORTS TO:


      Director of Special Education and Coordinator of School Health Services                       


 


JOB GOAL:


 


  To implement the school health program for students and staff.  Objectives of practice should be to minimize absences, promote wellness, and assist in the reduction or elimination of health-related barriers to academic success.


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


PRN BASIS ONLY 


 


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:




  1. Promote an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.




  2. Uphold professional standards, the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, and other statutes and regulations applicable to the practice of school nursing.




  3. Collaborate with the Coordinator of School Health Services and Healthroom Paraprofessionals.




  4. Serve as a direct link between families, healthcare providers, and community agencies.




  5. Apply appropriate theory as a basis for decision-making in nursing practice.




  6. Provide crisis intervention (e.g. adolescent pregnancy, substance abuse, death of a family member, suicide, and child abuse or neglect issues, etc).




  7. Develop nursing care plans with specific goals and interventions unique to student needs.




  8. Implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, and effect rehabilitation.




  9. Participate in student centered school team meetings, as appropriate.




  10. Provide relevant health-related instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, staff, parents and others.




  11. Assist with health screenings and subsequent follow-up.




  12. Act as substitute in absence of health room paraprofessional, when necessary.




  13. Provide health-related information to staff and students.




  14. Pursue relevant professional development opportunities.




  15. Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or the Coordinator of Health Service.
