About the role
- We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Technician to help build, debug, and validate complex prototype systems that combine mechanical, electrical, and optical components. This role sits at the intersection of R&D engineering, prototyping, and early-stage production. The technician will assemble prototypes, develop lab test setups, run experiments, and troubleshoot system-level issues. The position plays a key role in turning early designs into reliable hardware and preparing systems for manufacturing.
What you'll do
- Build and integrate prototype assemblies including mechanical structures, sensors, optics, and electronics
- Assemble and rework prototype and low-volume hardware
- Design and set up lab test fixtures and experimental rigs
- Conduct experiments, collect data, and support DOE-based testing
- Troubleshoot issues across mechanical, electrical, and system-level hardware
- Use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and DAQ systems
- Help identify root causes of failures and validate engineering hypotheses
- Maintain lab equipment and ensure safe, reliable operation
- Document build procedures, test methods, and experimental results
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on hardware skills: assembly, wiring, soldering, and mechanical integration
- Experience using standard lab instrumentation (oscilloscope, multimeter, power supplies, etc.)
- Ability to build and debug prototype systems from evolving designs
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D lab environment
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in hardware startups, robotics, aerospace, or complex hardware development
- Experience building electro/mechanical assemblies, or test fixtures
- Experience supporting prototype builds and early production
