Job Description

About the role

  • We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Technician to help build, debug, and validate complex prototype systems that combine mechanical, electrical, and optical components. This role sits at the intersection of R&D engineering, prototyping, and early-stage production. The technician will assemble prototypes, develop lab test setups, run experiments, and troubleshoot system-level issues. The position plays a key role in turning early designs into reliable hardware and preparing systems for manufacturing.

What you'll do

  • Build and integrate prototype assemblies including mechanical structures, sensors, optics, and electronics
  • Assemble and rework prototype and low-volume hardware
  • Design and set up lab test fixtures and experimental rigs
  • Conduct experiments, collect data, and support DOE-based testing
  • Troubleshoot issues across mechanical, electrical, and system-level hardware
  • Use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and DAQ systems
  • Help identify root causes of failures and validate engineering hypotheses
  • Maintain lab equipment and ensure safe, reliable operation
  • Document build procedures, test methods, and experimental results

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on hardware skills: assembly, wiring, soldering, and mechanical integration
  • Experience using standard lab instrumentation (oscilloscope, multimeter, power supplies, etc.)
  • Ability to build and debug prototype systems from evolving designs
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D lab environment
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hardware startups, robotics, aerospace, or complex hardware development
  • Experience building electro/mechanical assemblies, or test fixtures
  • Experience supporting prototype builds and early production
  • Technical education in mechanical, electrical, robotics, or mechatronics engineering
  • Experience working with 3D printers and understanding mechanical drawing using CAD software.

Benefits (subject to location and local regulations)

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Flexible vacation and time-off policy
  • Collaborative, fast-paced, and inclusive work environment
