    Automotive Technology Teacher

     

    Program Description: Middlesex County Magnet Schools and Middlesex College have partnered to offer an Automotive Technology program that provides adult students with hands-on training, industry certifications, and college credit opportunities. Through this collaboration, Middlesex College students gain access to state-of-the-art facilities, experienced instructors, and a curriculum aligned with current industry standards. The program is designed to prepare students for immediate employment in the automotive field while also creating pathways toward advanced study and career growth in areas such as diagnostics, repair, and emerging automotive technologies.

     

    SALARY RANGE:  $66,761 - $77,101           

     

    PROJECTED START DATE:   February 2026

     

    DEPARTMENT:  Adult Education / Engineering Technologies

     

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
    1. Provides instruction for a wide variety of college-level Automotive Technology courses related to the following eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) core content areas:

     
    • Engine Repair

    • Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

    • Manual Drive Train and Axles

    • Suspension and Steering

    • Brakes

    • Electrical/Electronic Systems

    • Heating & Air Conditioning

    • Engine Performance

     
    1. Handles a teaching load of fifteen (15) contact hours per semester. Related responsibilities include maintaining five (5) office hours per week for student advisement and tutoring, as well as participation in activities at Middlesex College, including departmental and division meetings, and college-wide initiatives.

    2. Maintains safety standards in shop areas to ensure that students are trained and follow appropriate safety practices.

    3. Non-instructional duties for this position include: ordering supplies, participating in student recruitment activities, building employer relationships in support of the program, assistance with maintaining program accreditation, management of the Automotive Technology Advisory Board, and worksite visits.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

     
    • Automotive Repair Experience in Industry

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited program

    • Three (3) years of teaching experience

    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

    • Driver’s license

    • Criminal background check

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     
    • Master’s degree in a technology-related field from an accredited program

    • ASE Certification in the eight core ASE content areas

    • Community college teaching experience

    • Five (5) years of field experience working as an automotive technician, including experience working with service managers of new car dealerships and owners/managers of independent repair facilities; securing cooperative work positions for students

    • Experience using diverse, student-centered instructional methods that address a variety of learning styles

    • Experience incorporating current digital technologies in both face-to-face and online pedagogies

    • Knowledge of the Middlesex County Magnet School and Middlesex College’s Mission and Vision

    • Commitment to a culture of assessment and evidence-informed teaching

     


     

     

    SCHEDULE:           Twelve (12)-Month Position; College Semester schedule
