The Logistics Manager owns transportation execution as a core operational function – from ensuring the reliability of carriers equipment, managing the teams work levels and assignments, controlling costs, overseeing the availability of units, maintaining carrier relations and ensuring on time deliveries of product
- Lead, develop and support Logistics personnel within the assigned region (including performance management, training, coaching and recruitment)
- Manage employee time and attendance (vacation requests, time off requests, scheduling etc.)
- Ensure full compliance with company safety standards, DOT, CNESST, OSHA and carrier safety requirements
- Act as the primary operational owner for carrier performance in regards to reliability, safety behavior, claims and issue resolution
- Work closely with Corporate Logistics and Shared Services on carrier sourcing, rate negotiations, reporting and program compliance
- Oversee and manage the PO process for Logistics related costs
- Drive Logistics cost discipline and continuous improvement
- Establish, implement and ensure compliance with standard logistics processes
- Engage Plant Managers and OSR’s to address plant level carrier & best practice issues
- Contribute, develop and manage core SAP and PBI practices and changes
- Develop, implement, and monitor program changes required to drive improvement
- Build strong relationships with all carriers and have a thorough knowledge of their operations including strengths and weaknesses.
- Available for on call emergencies
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in a management role
- Excellent leadership skills - “Lead by example” work manner
- Demonstrated problem solving, prioritization and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work tactfully with transportation carriers, accounting, data processing and sales personnel
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to train, motivate and coach employees
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public
