Position: Summer Student - Shipping Coordinator

Primary Location: On-Site - North Vancouver, British Columbia

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 40 hours

Reports to: Day Operations Superintendent 

 

Compensation: $18-$21 per hour. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and location.   The hourly rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position.   Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process.

About this role & you

You are an organized and dependable administrative professional with a strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving. With 1–3 years of experience in an office or clerical environment, you bring a solid understanding of document control, data entry, and shipping coordination. You're confident working with Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel and ideally have some exposure to SAP. In this role, you’ll support the Day Operations team by managing shipment documentation, maintaining records, and ensuring efficient communication and workflow—contributing directly to the smooth and safe movement of goods.

 

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountable for maximizing the operational performance of the Day Operations Department by processing shipment documentation, maintaining loading to plan, and managing equipment availability.

 

Administrative:

  • Provide administrative support to the Day Operations department, specifically duties and tasks related to shipping needs including shipping coverage for rail, trucks and barges.
  • Maintain document control database.
  • Manage documents according to document control procedures.
  • Accurate data entry for official transportation of dangerous goods documents. 
  • Organize and file all required documents pertaining to transportation and maintenance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge:

  • Minimum 1-3 years in an office environment.
  • High school Diploma
  • Secondary Schooling

 

Competencies:

  • 1-3 years of relevant administrative, clerical and/or payroll experience.
  • Advanced knowledgeable of business software including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel.
  • Working knowledge of SAP strongly preferred.
  • High level of administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work within a changing work environment with many interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good command of English language required.
  • Must be able to prioritize, plan and conduct work activities accurately and efficiently.
  • Dependable, self-starter and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

 

Physical Demands / Work Environment: 

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
