Summary:
The Materials & Welding Engineer supports the development and execution of engineering projects by ensuring material and welding compliance with industry codes, client specifications, and internal standards. This role works cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, quality, and project teams, as well as external vendors and clients, to ensure material integrity and manufacturing excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and approve vendor documentation including:
- Material Test Reports (MTRs)
- Manufacturing process plans
- NDE procedures
- Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS/PQR) to ensure compliance with applicable codes and client requirements
- Support and oversee:
- Forging qualifications
- Welding procedure and welder qualifications
- Develop, update, and maintain company material and coating specifications
- Review client specifications during tendering to identify gaps, risks, and deviations
- Provide technical support for resolving non-conformances (NCRs) related to materials and welding
- Participate in client audits, inspections, and technical reviews
- Collaborate with internal teams (design, manufacturing, quality, project management) to ensure material and welding requirements are properly implemented
- Promote and ensure compliance with company HSE policies and procedures
- Share technical knowledge and best practices across the organization
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field
- 2–5 years of relevant experience (additional experience considered, especially in subsea or oil & gas)
- Working knowledge of:
- Forging processes
- Heat treatment
- Mechanical testing methods
- Destructive and non-destructive testing
- Experience reviewing:
- MTRs
- Manufacturing process plans
- NDE procedures
- Welding documentation
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

- Experience with coating systems (e.g., epoxy)
- Subsea or oil & gas industry experience
