Job Summary/Basic Function


The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Middle Tennessee State University seeks dynamic researchers and educators to apply for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in our nationally and internationally recognized Actuarial Science Program at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the positions is August 1, 2026.


We are proud to be designated as a Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) by the Society of Actuaries (SOA), a distinction held by only 45 universities worldwide, including just 24 in the United States (as of October 2025). In addition, we are recognized as a Gold Level University Program by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), a designation awarded to only 17 programs worldwide. These prestigious recognitions highlight the quality of our curriculum, faculty expertise, strong industry connections, and the outstanding career outcomes of our graduates. Key Responsibilities



  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses supporting the Actuarial Science, Statistics, and the Computational and Data Science PhD programs.

  • Maintain an active research agenda in actuarial science and related fields.

  • Pursue professional actuarial credentials and actively engage with the examination process that governs the actuarial profession.

  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research projects.

  • Mentor students, including international students, by providing academic and career guidance.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry professionals to enhance the program's visibility and opportunities for students.

  • Participate in recruitment efforts and program assessment to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with industry standards.

  • Assist the Director of Actuarial Sciences with program and curriculum development.


Required Education


A terminal degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.


Other Desirables


Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:



  • Professional certification as a fellow or associate of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) or the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS).

  • Expertise at the intersection of actuarial science and one or more complementary fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science, finance, insurance, risk management, or statistics.
