Position Title: Center-based Special Education Teacher(s)
Needed:
• Teacher of Students with Emotional Impairments
• Teacher of Students with Moderate Cognitive Impairments
• Teacher of Students with Severe Cognitive Impairments
Minimum Qualifications:
• Valid Michigan teacher’s certification with Special Education endorsement or willing to obtain
necessary special education endorsement
• Meet the state definition of “Highly Qualified”
• Knowledge of effective educational programming and classroom management techniques for
students in special education
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum, teaching and instruction for individuals
and groups, and the assessment of learning
• Ability to assess and address individual learning needs
• Knowledge of best practices and differentiated instruction
• Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing
• Able to effectively teach all students, sensitivity to the unique needs of students
• Positive attitude
• Ability to exercise tact and discretion in relationships with students, staff, and parents
• Ability to work independently and with a team
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Proficient use of technology
• Understanding of effective methods of MTSS and PBIS implementation
Required Education and Experience
• Valid Michigan teacher’s certification with Special Education endorsement
• The following qualifications are preferred but not required: additional special education
endorsements, experience with vocational programming, behavior management and non-
violent crisis intervention.
General Job Responsibilities
● Provide and coordinate instructional program for students in assigned classroom.
● Assess students’ achievement and develop instructional strategies to meet individual
educational needs of students in assigned classroom.
● Schedule, prepare, and coordinate IEP meetings for assigned students.
● Coordinates and implements behavior intervention plans for assigned students.
● Work cooperatively and communicate with staff, students, and parents/guardians.
● Maintain and process appropriate records/reports.
● Organize the classroom to provide an effective learning climate.
● Prepare and implement daily lesson plans.
● Provide direction and guidance to Instructional Aides.
● Establish and maintain a cooperative and supportive relationship with all students.
● Collaborate and coordinate with ancillary staff, support staff and administration.
● Accurately meet all mandated special education documentation and reporting in a timely
manner.
● Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:
Full-Time position, School Year Calendar-Based Contract: (185) days. Monday – Friday
Salary based on candidate and benefits as established by the SIEA Master Agreement and Board of
Education.
