Role Overview:

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for producing accurate and efficient 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings for electrical switchgear panels and associated components. This role ensures that mechanical designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned with CEL’s internal standards, while supporting collaboration across Electrical Design, Project Management, Production, and external suppliers.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Create and maintain 3D assemblies of electrical switchgear.
  • Design accurate 3D models of machined and sheet metal parts and components.
  • Produce detailed 2D manufacturing drawings, including tolerances, bend details, and material specifications.
  • Interpret electrical schematics to develop mechanical designs.
  • Research and obtain 3D component models from supplier websites and technical databases, or model components where required.
  • Verify dimensions, clearances, and installation constraints using supplier datasheets and documentation.
  • Adhere to company CAD standards and mechanical design procedures, using approved drawing templates.
  • Optimise designs for material efficiency and ease of manufacture.
  • Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for all mechanical designs.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Designers, Project Managers, and Production staff to ensure alignment with design requirements.
  • Provide technical support to Production during construction and assembly, resolving queries as needed.
  • Liaise directly with suppliers regarding manufacturability, design feasibility, and clarification of technical details.
  • Work with suppliers to identify and implement practical part and design solutions based on manufacturing capabilities.
  • Maintain and contribute to CEL’s reusable library of mechanical components and designs.
  • Ensure high-quality, consistent mechanical documentation is maintained for all deliverables.
