Job Description

TITLE: Guidance Counselor—High School


 


EMPLOYMENT TERMS:  Eleven (11) months.  Salary and work year are to be establish by the board.


 


SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Teacher's Salary's Schedule


 


GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:


To assist student to overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans, that hold promise for personal fulfilment as mature men and women.


 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Assists in the registration of new students and orients them to school procedures and the schools' varied opportunities for learning.

  2. Prepare the Master Schedule for each school year.

  3. Aids students in course/subject selection while conducting the scheduling of the student body.

  4. Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.

  5. Works to resolve students' educational handicaps.

  6. Works to discover and develop special abilities of students.

  7. Assists in Special Education, Reading, and LAU Compliance activities.

  8. Works to prevent students from dropping out of school.

  9. Helps prepare students for entry into an appropriate high school course of study.

  10. Assists in the placement in appropriate Summer School Programs.

  11. Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.

  12. Obtains and disseminates occupational information to students and to classes studying occupations.

  13. Helps students evaluate career interests and choices.

  14. Organizes and conducts an annual "Career Day".

  15. Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such things as home -family relations, peer group problems, health, and emotional adjustment.

  16. Confers with parents whenever necessary.

  17. Interprets the Guidance/Counseling Program to the community and makes Chapter House visitations.

  18. Assist in providing In-Service training in guidance and related fields to teachers and student teachers.

  19. Assist administrators and teacher in matters of student discipline/attendance.

  20. Assists in the orientation of new faculty members.

  21. Organize and present one (1) seminar each semester concerning topics such as Drugs/Alcohol, Family Planning etc.

  22. Will demonstrate competency in use of the computer.

  23. Will assist in the preparation and distribution of Student Progress Reports and Report Cards.

  24. Will prepare and submit to the Principal before leaving school at the end of the school year, a list indicating what class each student will be place into according to school policies and list of students according to class rank. A log of counseling session data will be submitted at the end of each month.

  25. Will compile and publish an Honor Roll in accordance with school policies.

  26. Will prepare and present to the Principal a list of the students graduating or promoting as requested by the administration.

  27. Will prepare and maintain a Counseling Service Handbook.

  28. Organizes and administers and tabulates those standardized tests required by the state and/or district and any accompanying reports as needed.

  29. Maintains accurate inventory records and faithfully submits budget requests, requisitions, and work orders according to school and district policies/regulations/procedures.

  30. Assists the administrators in implementing all policies/rules governing student life and conduct.

  31. Faithfully performs all special duty and extra duty assignments as required. (Ex. lunch, duty, half duty, class/club assignments.)

  32. Attend all staff meetings as required and serve on all staff committees as required.

  33. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

  34. Performs other such tasks and assumes responsibilities as the Superintendent and Board may require.

  35. Faithfully follow those procedures and comply with those requirements as stated in the District and handbook.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


 


Certification:


Secondary/Elementary Certification, Teaching credential and counseling endorsement, Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.


Experience:


Kind and amount prior job experience required and such alternatives to the above qualifications as Board may fine appropriate and acceptable.


 


Education:


Bachelors or Master degree in guidance counseling, special education, and/or related field.


 


License:


Valid Driver’s License
