During the summer, Teaching Aides play a vital role in creating a supportive learning environment for students. Punahou School is recruiting a Teaching Aide to join the Summer Sustainability Fellowship Program team. The Teaching Aide will play a vital role in assisting with the program's day-to-day operations, helping to create a positive and educational experience for high school students participating in the program.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Program Support: Assist in the organization and coordination of program activities, including lessons, field trips, and special events.
- Mentoring: Provide guidance and support to high school student participants, helping them with their research projects, questions, and challenges related to sustainability.
- Facilitation: Co-facilitate group discussions and activities, helping to engage students in sustainability-related topics.
- Logistics: Assist with logistical aspects of the program, such as scheduling, transportation, and supply management.
- Data Management: Collect and organize data related to program participants' progress and outcomes.
- Communication: Maintain clear and timely communication with students, program leaders, and fellow interns to ensure smooth program operations.
- Field Trips: Accompany students on field trips, ensuring their safety and active participation in educational activities.
- Documentation: Assist with documenting program activities, including photos, videos, and written reports.
Position Details:
- Work Year: 1.5 Months
- School Year: Summer School 2026
- Work Hours: Monday – Friday, hours may vary depending on course
- Hourly Rate: $16.00/Hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Passion for sustainability and a strong interest in fostering sustainability mindsets and applying systems thinking to complete problems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the evolving needs of the program.
- Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and a willingness to engage in outdoor learning experiences.
- Assists in the set-up and take-down of the classroom and preparation of classroom materials.
- Provides classroom and online support to the instructors.
- Possesses a respectful, responsible and resourceful disposition with a willingness and ability to improve based on feedback from the instructors.
- Fosters an environment in which students feel safe to investigate curriculum, discover the world in which they live and learn about themselves.
- Effectively and appropriately communicates with peers, faculty, and students, and engages in positive collaboration with colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in a field related to environmental science, education, or sustainability.
- Prior experience in youth education, environmental education, or program coordination.
- Knowledge of sustainability concepts and environmental issues.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
