Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and attentive Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide 1:1 care for a 32-year-old female with complex medical and behavioral needs. The nurse will provide direct support, medication administration, and continuous supervision to ensure safety and well-being.
The ideal candidate is patient, dependable, and comfortable working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and seizure disorders.
Client Summary
32-year-old female
Diagnoses include:
Moderate Intellectual Disability (ID)
Intractable Mixed Seizure Disorder
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Verbal with limited vocabulary
Ambulatory
Typically sleeps through the night without concerns
Sleep should not be interrupted, as disruption may trigger seizures
Seizures are unpredictable and most commonly occur overnight or early morning
Requires within arm’s reach supervision at all times for safety
Seizure protocol in place from University of Pennsylvania Neurology
Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 nursing supervision and care
Take vital signs prior to medication administration
Administer medications at 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM
Monitor for seizure activity and follow established seizure protocol
Evaluate client status after seizure activity
Administer rescue medication per seizure protocol when required
Complete seizure logs and incident reports
Maintain daily nursing documentation
Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including:
Meal preparation
Feeding assistance
Toileting
Personal care
Ensure the client’s safety and well-being at all times
Qualifications
Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in [State]
Experience with seizure disorders preferred
Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred
Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Strong documentation and communication skills
Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care
Additional Information
Training will be provided on the client's specific seizure protocol
Nurse must maintain close supervision and situational awareness at all times
