Job Description

SUMMARY

Directs/performs diagnostic cardiovascular procedures per physician request and in compliance with established policy and procedures. 

JOB DUTIES

Performs diagnostic testing and forwards reports for interpretation by reading physician. Notifies reader as to abnormal.  Communicates with nursing units and other ancillary department.  Performs diagnostic testing in compliance with hospital and departmental policy and procedures.  Demonstrates knowledge of and implements policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing departments.  Assists physicians with patient procedures.  Participates in the orientation of new staff and in the clinical experience of students. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

The Cardiovascular Technologist must be a graduate of an AMA approved Cardiovascular Technologist Program, or the equivalent. Must be certified, or registered by Cardiovascular  Credentialling International(CCI).

One years’ experience as a Cardiopulmonary Technologist desirable.  Frequent contacts with nursing personnel, physicians, patients, and ancillary department personnel requiring good communication skills.  Must be proficient in the use of physiologic analytical equipment during diagnostic procedures, such as Echocardiography machine to perform 2Decho and Transesophageal echo's.  The Cardiopulmonary Technologist, through the use of specific high technology equipment and at the discretion or prescription of a physician, performs procedures upon patients, which lead to the diagnosis of heart disease. Must have willingness to work with the realization that errors and incompetence may have serious consequences for the patient.  Must have current BLS.
