Job Title: Underwriter (Parametric / ART)

Reports to: Head of ART and Parametric
Key relationships: Brokers, colleagues across underwriting teams, coverholders, external clients and suppliers
About the Role
We’re looking for an Underwriter to help grow and shape our global Parametric portfolio within the Property Risks Division. In this role, you’ll apply your technical expertise to underwriting, structuring, trigger design and market insights, while building strong relationships with brokers and clients. You’ll play a key part in strengthening Beazley’s reputation in the market and contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing team.
Underwriting:
- Develop and underwrite a profitable and sustainable portfolio of Parametric business as part of the Property team.
- Structure and price tailored solutions, applying underwriting parameters, policies and standards to win and retain business.
- Monitor premiums, costs and claims ratios, taking action where needed to support long‑term profitability.
- Assess risk premiums by considering risk costs, reinsurance, capital exposure and administration costs, using rating models where appropriate.
- Support and guide peer underwriters to ensure consistent, efficient and profitable underwriting.
- Provide oversight and coaching to underwriting assistants to ensure alignment with underwriting philosophy and standards.
- Comply with Group underwriting standards for business written through Beazley Bermuda Insurance Ltd (BBIL), Lloyd’s or internal MGAs.
- Build strong working relationships with claims colleagues to support effective claims handling and insight sharing.
Client & Broker Engagement
- Provide clear, thoughtful advice to clients on insurance and risk matters, ensuring a positive and supportive experience.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with clients to understand their needs and align them with Beazley’s capabilities.
- Maintain and develop productive relationships with brokers.
- Stay informed about Beazley’s wider product offering and identify opportunities to introduce additional solutions to clients.
About You
Essential Criteria:
- Master’s degree in a science or engineering discipline related to natural catastrophe risk, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in Parametric Nat Cat Property Treaty reinsurance underwriting.
Skills & Abilities
- Graduate‑level education preferred.
- Deep understanding of natural catastrophe risk assessment.
- High level of accuracy and numerical capability.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office; advanced Excel skills.
- Programming experience in Python or R is a strong advantage.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
Knowledge & Experience
- Strong knowledge of the US Property Treaty reinsurance market.
- Established relationships with US parametric retail brokers
- Experience working with US regional, super‑regional and national clients.
- Familiarity with parametric underwriting systems (e.g., Verisk, REASK, Moody’s or similar).
- Experience in client service and catastrophe modelling.
