Job Description

Pay Grade: 28N


CONTEXT OF JOB:


The UDairy Creamery Enterprise is an entity of the University of Delaware’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. It is currently comprised of two brick and mortar retail locations, a mobile ice cream truck, and a dairy production facility. UDairy uses milk sourced from the college dairy unit and is also an outlet for other college products including honey, beef, wool and more.


Under the supervision of the UDairy Assistant Director, Retail Operations, and the location managers, the Operations Assistant assists with the overall operational functions of the Creamery, to include event execution and location support of the Creamery locations. The Operations Assistant is responsible for assisting with the management and execution of events involving the UDairy Creamery and the operations of the UDairy Creamery Moo Mobile ice cream truck. The position also supports the Cafe and Production Facility as needed. Position schedule is varied based on business demands Monday through Sunday; shift hours may vary to align with business needs.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Operational



  • Prepares, executes and delivers ice cream and catering orders on and off campus.

  • Prepares and executes catering events on and off campus.

  • Prepares and executes Moo Mobile events on and off campus.

  • Follows standard cleaning and sanitizing procedures and safe food handling.

  • Serves customers in a friendly, respectful and expedient manner.

  • Inventories paper and food items for ordering purposes.

  • Works at the Flagship location and assists with deliveries, ice cream production and other associated tasks, as needed.

  • Works at the Cafe location and assists with deliveries, catering production and other associated tasks, as needed.

  • Works at the Production Facility and assists with ice cream mix production, ice cream freezing, and cheesemaking and other associated tasks, as needed.


Staffing and Personnel Management



  • Supervises and assists with training and supporting student employees, miscellaneous wage employees, and interns.

  • Assists with developing, recommending and implementing employee training programs.

  • Makes recommendations to Creamery leadership on personnel actions.


Financial



  • Assists leadership with the recording and management of the Creamery accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, payroll, and event financials.


Communication



  • Communicates functions, services, and goals of the Creamery operations to internal and external stakeholders.


Miscellaneous



  • Responsible for complying with university policies, procedures, and best practices regarding protecting data and following UD data governance rules.

  • Serves as secondary coverage in the absence of any of the location managers of the Creamery operations.

  • Performs other job-related duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High School degree or GED and at least two years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Food handling or culinary experience.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft computer programs and computerized information systems.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience in facilitating events.

  • Previous supervisory and/or employee training experience preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of customer service standards and procedures preferred.

  • Skills in directing and enforcing policies and regulations preferred.

  • Ability to develop, plan and implement short- and long-range goals preferred.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • ServeSafe Manager Certified or must be able to achieve certification within 30 days of start date.

  • Flexibility to meet a variable schedule on nights and weekends, 7 days a week not to exceed 40 hours per week.

  • Must maintain a valid license in order to drive department vehicles.

  • With or without assistance, ability to move or lift up to 50 pounds.
