Job Summary

Under the direction of the Engineering & Maintenance Manager and with a focus on Safety, sets priorities for the maintenance team and assigns work as required through the Shift Leads.  Promotes continuous improvement in process quality, productivity, and elimination of waste.  Promotes teamwork and consistency within the maintenance department, partnering with all department leaders. 

Essential Functions

  • Performs all tasks in a safe manner. Comply with all plant/company safety and food safety programs.
  • Reports unsafe work conditions, practices, or equipment to management immediately with plan to resolve the issue.
  • Review, modify and/or write appropriate JSA’s for maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Ensures maintenance department performs job requirements safely, within specified or shortest time possible, at lowest cost and with minimum waste. 
  • Maintain appropriate quality of workmanship within the Maintenance Department with all Technicians.
  • Use all resources needed and available to minimize downtime and maximize running efficiency.
  • Partners with Procurement, making sure parts needed for repairs, projects, and PM’s are stocked.
  • Partners with the Preventive Maintenance Lead and Facilities Maintenance Lead, ensuring work and technicians are efficiently coordinated between both the Maintenance Shift Technicians and the PM Technicians.
  • Maintain a Maintenance / Instrument Controls Technician “Hands On” work style.  Expected to maintain all hands-on work assignments as a regular Technician.
  • On-call and available to troubleshoot non-routine problems that are causing extended downtime outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends. 
  • Expected to help develop, write, and review Work Instructions for all manufacturing equipment and Standard Operating Procedures for the Maintenance Department.  Providing support to other departments when needed.
  • Maintain and improve Maintenance Department and Plant Annual Goals. (Safety, Unscheduled Downtime, PM Completion Efficiency Rate, Work Order Closing Rate.)
  • Complete shop records and use reporting system following established procedures as required for effective performance of the job or operation of the department
  • 14. Review all open work orders weekly and review work order requirements with Engineering & Maintenance Manager and others as needed to determine appropriate schedule for work to be completed.
  • 15. Perform other related tasks established by plant management as necessary for the effective and efficient conduct of company business.
  • Attend meetings as needed, both on shift and off shift, to review projects.
  • Attend company-authorized seminars, instructional sessions, technical classes, and training requirements to maintain personal competence in new areas of technology and safety.
  • Direct and assist in check out, debug and start-up of new equipment as needed.
  • Provide training to other associates as needed.

Job Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience preferred in maintenance with exposure to machinery, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • 5+ years of Injection molding and Injection molding electrical control troubleshooting experience preferred. 
  • 5+ years of welding experience preferred.
  • Must have excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must have electrical experience including being familiar with PLC’s and PC based controls.
  • Must have the ability to work with Machine PC programs and expertly modify if needed.
  • Ability to expertly read, understand and comprehend written or oral instruction, technical data, blueprints, etc. and the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with others.  
  • Must be able to lead maintenance department and work across all departments in the facility.
  • Possess professional inter-personal skills. 
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Must have the ability to lead the maintenance department in making intricate and extensive repairs without the aid of conventional drawings. 
  • Ability to operate a forklift, scissors lift, boom lift and obtain annual certification. 
  • Basic educational level background normally acquired through the completion of high school level programs leading to a diploma or equivalent preferred. 
  • Completion of Basic industrial electrical course, hydraulic course and/or pneumatic course preferred. 

Environment

Work is in a manufacturing environment.   Requires twisting at waist, bending/stooping, squatting/kneeling, and climbing ladders.  Incumbent may be required to lift 70 lbs. on a regular basis and lift/carry more than 70 lbs. occasionally.  Requires reaching at, above and below shoulder level.  Must be able to work on elevated work platforms.  Expert at the operation of hand tools, machinery dollies, saws, metering devices, measuring devices, levels, jacks, copier, fax machine and telephone.  Requires walking (60%), standing (35%) and sitting (5%).  Requires full range of body motion such as twisting, bending, squatting, climbing, and reaching at/above/below shoulders. Visual requirements include near/far acuity, depth perception, and peripheral vision and color vision.  May be required to travel by automobile and airplane.
