PT Cook
Location: Detroit, MI
Schedule: Part-Time
Pay: $14/00 per hour
Summary
Volunteers of America Michigan (VOAMI) is seeking a reliable and team-oriented PT Cook to support daily meal preparation and service for the populations we serve. This role is responsible for preparing, organizing, and serving meals in accordance with established menus, food safety standards, and organizational guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals according to scheduled menus and available donations, following all food safety guidelines
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and hygiene practices (including labeling, dating, and rotation of food items)
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas in compliance with industry standards
- Monitor and report inventory usage and supply needs
- Assist with food donation pick-ups as assigned
- Wear appropriate uniform and maintain a professional appearance
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with VOA Michigan policies and procedures
- Complete tasks in a timely and organized manner to support efficient operations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 3–5 years of experience in food preparation (restaurant, cafeteria, or similar setting), or equivalent education (e.g., Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts)
- ServSafe Certification
- Knowledge of large-scale food preparation, service, and storage
- Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment and utensils
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Effective communication skills with staff, clients, donors, and vendors
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Flexible schedule availability
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License with an insurable driving record
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and/or carry at least 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, and pull throughout the shift
- Manual dexterity and ability to handle kitchen equipment
- Ability to see, hear, speak, and understand English
Work Environment
- Primarily indoor work environment
- Close collaboration with kitchen staff and leadership
- Frequent interaction with a diverse population
- May experience interruptions and occasionally work with individuals in stressful or emotional situations
