What you bring to SBHG:
Youth Counselor I
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must have one year of experience with children or adults with serious mental health needs. Inpatient experience is preferred.
Youth Counselor II / Youth Counselor IV
- High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, HiSET) plus three years of experience with children/adults with serious mental health needs; OR
- An Associate's degree plus one year of experience; OR
- A Bachelor's degree plus six months of experience.
Note: Inpatient experience with children/adolescents is preferred. Final pay is based on the Youth Counselor level the applicant qualifies for.
How you will make a difference:
- Supervise, protect, and care for adolescent clients individually and in groups.
- Provide day-to-day supervision and care of children, including assistance with activities of daily living, personal care, planned activities, and school.
- Models and support positive youth development and positive behavioral self-management through praise, attention, and use of behavioral incentive system.
- Conducts or assists both large and small activity groups. Assist adolescents in both large and small activity groups, encouraging appropriate behavior and providing feedback to adolescents.
- Perform documentation that records adolescents’ daily activities and behaviors.
- Attend and participate in shift rounds, change of shift meetings, and treatment team meetings as scheduled.
Division/Program Overview:
- 24/7 inpatient involuntary program
- 16-bed facility for acute youth (ages 5-17)
- Intensive treatment programs with individualized care plans
- Available for contracting Central Valley counties
- Moves clients through five phases: admission; engagement; learning; stabilization and linkage to resources and aftercare
