Physical Therapist

Support & Related Services

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

     1.    Registered Physical Therapist in the State of Michigan.

    2.    Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with parents and other team members in special education.

    3.    Experience with children, plus knowledge in child growth and development.

    4.    Ability to communicate and work positively with children, other professionals and parents.

    5.    Knowledge of a variety of physical therapy intervention techniques.

    6.    Knowledge of psychomotor and readiness assessment tools.

    7.    Experience working with families in home-based and center programs.

    8.    Knowledge of adaptive equipment for transporting.

    9.    Work experience and/or experience with cognitively impaired.

  10.    Experience in the acquisition and maintenance of data, both computerized and hard copy.

   11.    Flexibility and willingness to adapt to varied responsibilities.

  12.    Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

 

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

     1.    Organize a comprehensive physical therapy program in concert with other team members.

    2.    Set up and order equipment for physical therapy.

    3.    Assess and schedule students and parents and also initiate a treatment program with physician’s order.

    4.    Work cooperatively as a team member with occupational therapist, speech therapist, and teaching staff to facilitate optimum experience for the child.

    5.    Act as liaison between school districts, physicians, families and agencies regarding the physical therapy needs of students with special needs.

    6.    Construct and adapt physical therapy equipment to meet the needs of the individual child.

    7.    Teach and instruct teachers, aides and other professionals in the proper handling and techniques for the child.

    8.    Evaluate students’ needs and provide appropriate services.

    9.    Participate in ongoing evaluation as directed.

  10.    Attend IEP meetings as appropriate.

   11.    Keep appropriate lesson plans, attendance records, Medicaid records, progress notes and annotations; develop and write IEP plans/objectives in cooperation with parents, other professionals and outside agency personnel. Develop and update child and family plans, objectives periodically to see that the skills are being acquired and needs are being met.

  12.    Perform such other duties and functions as may be necessary and related to the above.

WORKLOCATION:   Support & Related Services

WORKYEAR:         186 day calendar

UNION:       Position would be within the Macomb Intermediate Federation of Teachers

SALARY:       To be determined by qualifications and experience as per the Direct Service and Degree Specialist salary schedule of the MIFT Master Agreement.

STARTING DATE:   September 2, 2026
