    JOB SUMMARY:
     
    The Dougherty County School System seeks a dedicated and student-centered Third Grade Teacher to support the academic, social, and emotional development of young learners. The teacher creates a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning. The Third Grade Teacher delivers high-quality instruction aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence, uses data to inform instructional decisions, and supports the development of foundational literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills. The teacher collaborates with colleagues, families, and school leaders to ensure every student receives the support necessary to achieve academic success and reach their full potential.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

    1. Bachelors' degree or higher;
    2. Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Waiver eligible;
    3. Demonstrated knowledge of early elementary instructional practices;
    4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    1. Strong knowledge of early literacy and child development;
    2. Ability to create a structured, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment;
    3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills when working with students, parents, and colleagues;
    4. Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs;
    5. Skill in integrating instructional technology and digital resources to enhance student learning;
    6. Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills;
    7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment;
    8. Strong organizational and time-management skills.

     
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    1. Establishes and maintains a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and respect;
    2. Plans and delivers standards-based instruction aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence;
    3. Designs developmentally appropriate learning experiences that build foundational literacy and problem-solving skills;
    4. Uses formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and inform instructional adjustments;
    5. Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with varying academic, language, and social-emotional needs;
    6. Implements effective classroom management practices that promote a productive learning environment;
    7. Collaborates with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and school leaders to support continuous instructional improvement;
    8. Communicates regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, learning goals, and classroom expectations;
    9. Maintains accurate student records, documentation, and reports in accordance with district policies and timelines;
    10. Participates in professional learning, faculty meetings, and school improvement initiatives;
    11. Supervises students during instructional and non-instructional times as assigned;
    12. Demonstrates professionalism through reliable attendance, preparation, and adherence to district policies and procedures;
    13. Maintains satisfactory performance on the system Evaluation Instrument;
    14. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

    PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

    1. Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods of time;
    2. Ability to occasionally lift or move instructional materials and classroom supplies (up to approximately 25 pounds);
    3. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and assist young students as needed;
    4. Work is performed primarily in a classroom environment with moderate noise levels typical of a school setting
    5. Requires frequent interaction with students, staff, and families throughout the school day

     
    REPORTS TO: Principal
     
    SALARY RANGE:   Tenth-Month Contract - Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
