Job duties and Responsibilities:

  • Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.
  • Determine shipping method for materials using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates.
  • Prepare documents such as work orders, bills of lading and shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damage, shortages and non-conformance to specifications.
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.
  • Coordinate with operations management to deliver repair materials to departments or inventory with priority given to critical orders using work devices, such as hand-truck, conveyor or sorting bins.
  • Pack, seal, label and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools and postage meter.
  • Contact the carrier representative to decide and issue instructions for the shipping and delivery of materials.
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting and record keeping purposes.
  • Compute amounts, such as space available and shipping, storage and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list.
  • Be in general locality of the shipping areas during known delivery times. Assist in loading/unloading of L&S and freight trucks.
  • Organize and maintain an inter-shop shipping area.
  • Prepare shipments so that they are organized and ready to go, in a timely manner.
  • Follow all applicable work instructions.
  • Perform vehicle maintenance, including care of forklifts.
  • Receive in new products and repair stock, on computer system.
  • Print new product orders on a computer system.
  • Process all incoming/outgoing UPS, Fed-Ex and freight carrier shipments.
  • Keep the building and surrounding grounds clean and in good condition.
  • Perform other activities as directed by supervisor.

 Essential Qualifications:

  • Valid DOT medical card and Class B CDL or willing to obtain CDL.
  • Familiar with driver DOT logs and auditing procedures.
  • Ability to operate company trucks in varying weather conditions to safely transport goods or material.
  • Possess basic computer knowledge and ability to use the computer efficiently.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Team player and willing to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, on weekdays, and or weekends to meet customer service requirements.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Able to wear required PPE
  • Able to pass pre-employment background check and drug test.

            Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to operate a forklift to load equipment on shelving up to 15 feet high.
  •  Mechanical aptitude and disassembly/assembly experience preferred.
  •  Must be organized and possess time management skills and skills to adapt to priority changes.
  •  Must be able to work in a supportive team environment that is fast paced with a strong commitment to accountability.
  •  Must be able to follow and communicate both written and verbal information clearly in English with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with rigging and lifting heavy loads, and operating overhead cranes.

            Physical/Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, crouching and climbing at times. 
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work at elevated heights
