Position Summary:

Responsible for developing and validating special processes, manufacturing process specifications, welding schedules, and evaluating existing designs given knowledge of materials, chemistry, and engineering/manufacturing best practices. 

Description of Duties:

  • Collect, maintain, and analyze data related to materials and processes
  • Perform trade studies related to materials and processes
  • Perform research related to specific projects and write process documentation and manuals
  • Participate in the selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis of materials and processes, including special processes
  • Support technical engineering assignments related to hardware assembly processes and testing.
  • Assist Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement in resolving material and process issues
  • Develop and document internal manufacturing processes, including special processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of a variety of manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of equipment and systems appropriate to related discipline
  • Knowledge of Industry Standards as related to materials. ( Mil STD, ANSI, ASTM, SAE, AWS)
  • Knowledge of Material Usage and Identification Listing and reporting as required by NASA
  • Knowledge of special process approval and monitoring requirements for human spaceflight programs, military programs, or other equivalent industries
  • Skill in applying M&P engineering principles and procedures
  • Skill in engineering design applications
  • Skilled in understanding materials compatibility, ideally including metals, elastomers, and polymers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, positive work relationships; have creativity, flexibility and resourcefulness; have discriminating judgment, tact, and sense of humor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in either aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or related field
  • 5-7 years related experience in the industry or in a related area
