Experience Aviva

Together, we are Aviva. Our values — Care, Commitment, Community, and Confidence — guide how we show up for each other and for our customers. Individually, they’re words. Together, they define who we are.

At Aviva Canada, we put people first, our employees, our customers, and our communities. We’re proud of a culture built on care, inclusion, and collaboration, where your voice matters and your growth is supported. We’re not just about insurance; we’re about making a real difference by protecting what matters most.

The Opportunity

Aviva Canada is looking for a motivated and technically strong individual to join the Claims Data team within Finance. This role is ideal for someone who thrives as a hands‑on individual contributor and is interested in growing into a technical leader through strong delivery, operational understanding, stakeholder influence, and end-to-end ownership.

You will play a key role in evolving our Claims Data ecosystem by delivering high‑impact data solutions, driving engineering best practices, and supporting the modernization of our data platform. You will work closely with the team supporting our Qlik environment and contribute significantly to our migration to Snowflake, helping to establish a scalable, well‑governed data foundation that enables advanced analytics and supports future growth across Claims and Finance.

If you are excited about building modern data solutions and driving meaningful business impact, we would love to hear from you.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines and analytical datasets using Snowflake and Qlik.

  • Own the end‑to‑end delivery of data solutions, from requirements through implementation and support.

  • Define and apply best practices for data modeling, performance optimization, and cost‑efficient architecture within Snowflake.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, including conducting and supporting code reviews to ensure high-quality and well-documented solutions

  • Automate data ingestion and transformation workflows while integrating data from multiple source systems.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline and reporting issues to ensure reliability, performance, and availability.

  • Collaborate with claims operations, analytics team, and actuarial teams by developing a strong understanding of claims workflows and owning stakeholder interactions to translate business needs into robust data solutions.

What you’ll bring:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or a related technical role

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audience

  • A collaborative mindset, balanced with the ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables

  • A strong sense of accountability and ownership, with a consistent focus on delivering results

  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to work through the technical implementation details while appreciating the big picture

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience working with complex data models

  • Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake preferred)

  • Experience building, maintaining, and debugging ETL/ELT data pipelines

  • Familiarity with P&C insurance and claims data is considered an asset

What you’ll get:

  • The salary band for this position ranges from $100,000 to $120,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.

  • Compelling rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.

  • Hybrid flexible work model.

  • Outstanding career development opportunities.

  • We’ll support your professional development education.

  • Competitive vacation package with the option to purchase 5 extra days off per year.

  • Employee-driven programs focused on gender, LGBTQ+, origins, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Corporate wellness programs to support our employees’ physical and mental health.
