Job Description

The Project Specialist 2 – Is a Project Manager that will Plan, coordinate, direct, and execute all day to day project activities according to set timelines and budget milestones. Be responsible for safe, on time, and on budget completion of all project activities while being held accountable for project level profit and loss and schedule elements. The PM will report directly to the Director of Projects in B&W (USA) This position will require the PM to be proactive in the proposal and costing phase of the project. This will be accomplished by working in concert with Proposal/Estimating group. This position will be instrumental in being competitive by winning projects but also find the balance of maintaining or increasing As Sold Project Margin, while keeping safety and quality in the forefront of all involved.
 

  • Works with Project Developer(s) and Sales with respect to technical and commercial strategy.

  • Sets and communicates the following: scope of supply, division of work, project execution plan, cost, and 

    schedule.

  • Leads cost evaluation and scrubbing activities along with Proposal Approval Request meetings, presenting the entire opportunity for management’s approval.

  • Writing and producing best in class proposal documents all under the coaching of a senior proposal manager.

  • Ensure smooth transition of all information and documentation to the project team upon contract award in 

    accordance with company policy and procedures.

  • Produce budgetary and offer to sell proposals in accordance with company guidelines, policies & procedures.

  • Maintain proposal project information in Salesforce.com.

  • Interface with B&W Sales and customers during bid phase.

  • Review and interpret customer’ specifications and prepare exceptions and clarification while maintaining

  • B&W’s competitive advantage.

  • Engage in research of past and legacy projects via an array of B&W business systems and archives as a way of developing solutions and technical offerings.

  • Develop initial Project Execution Plans and Price Approval Request (PAR) documentation including technical 

    and commercial risk assessment for presentation to management.

  • Lead PAR meetings and provide management with updates.

  • Work with the appropriate departments to develop the details of B&W’s technical and commercial offers 

    including Engineering, Legal, Supply Chain, Project Management, Business Units, and other groups as 

    necessary.

  • Obtain approvals for pricing, commercial and technical positions. Review risks/opportunities from the 

    Business Units.

  • Develop and maintain formal communications, adequate documentation, and records of the project.

  • Responsible for communicating project status and providing necessary escalations to management.

  • Address, advise, and assist with critical issues relative to projects within area of responsibility.

  • Utilize extensive B&W knowledge to produce quality proposals.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technology, or business management preferred or equivalent experience in 

    lieu of degree

  • 8+ years technical expreince in the power generation field with knowledge of power plants and steam creation 

    side of the process

  • In office preferred but open to hybrid

  • · Knowledge of boilers firing various fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) along with industrial process recovery, and

  • auxiliary systems preferred

  • Proficient in proposal management with an emphasis on building commercial skills and developing best in class 

    proposal packages.

  • Knowledge and understanding of package boiler products and systems

  • Familiarity with commercial contracting and B&W contracting guidelines

  • Technical background in utility and/or heavy industrial industries 

     

  • Technical design and graphics skills is a plus.

  • Demonstrated organization, communication, and writing skills.
