POSITION SUMMARY:                        


Responsible for guiding and directing students in a successful unified flag football program at the high school level.



IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:                  


Athletic Director
School Principal



 

Duties and Responsibilities (include but may not be limited to):


  • Oversees the administration of the High School’s Unified Flag Football team which is composed of a proportional number of students with disabilities and students without disabilities.

  • Liaison regularly with the school’s Athletic Director and Special Olympics to ensure quality program standards are being met and policies are being followed.

  • Develop and implement practice plans in which track and field event instruction is provided toall participants. There are a minimum of two practices each week.

  • Organize and lead all practice sessions with the recruitment and support of Assistant Coaches.

  • Impart the philosophy of a positive inclusive sports experience by following the principles of Unified Sports.

  • Plan and manage competition strategies for individuals and the team at games.

  • Recruit students with intellectual disabilities, students with other types of disabilities, and students without disabilities for the team.

  • Handle all paperwork requirements and forms required by the school district and Special Olympics.

  • If serving as a host site for a game, recruit and train volunteers to manage the event.

  • Attend any appropriate training in your county and complete the Special Olympics Unified Sports Coaches’ course.
