About the Department

If you have a passion for the water and love teaching others this might be the job for you! Parent Child Aquatics Instructors will teach participants age 0 – 3 years old with a parent or guardian. Instructors are responsible for implementing the standard lesson plans, adjusting to individual class needs, classroom management, communicating with participants and guardians, and keeping participants safe (with the assistance of a lifeguard). This role includes organizing games, leading parents in related songs, and abundant enthusiasm for students reaching milestones.

Teaching equipment, lesson plans, report cards, and additional training resources provided.

School Year Schedule:

Regular and Substitute Instructors Needed for: 

  • Tuesday Parent Child Classes 5:00-5:30 PM, 5:35 – 6:05 PM, & 6:10 – 6:40 PM

No classes held on major holidays or during Syble Hopp school breaks! 

Location: 
Most classes are taught at Syble Hopp pool during the school year with a small selection of being taught in the summer season at our outdoor pools.

Pay Range:
$18 - $20 Estimated 2-2.25 hours per evening. Classes scheduled in sessions of 6-7 weeks. Instructors typically teach three classes on a weeknight for the duration of a session.

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and candidates will be notified when a new recruitment process begins.  Applicants do not need to be a City of De Pere resident.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to teach a variety of skill levels
  • Ability to communicate and work well with the public
  • Ability to instruct parents and young children
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness
  • Understanding of basic swimming techniques

Other Qualifications

  • At least 16 years of age, preferable 18+
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
  • Experience in swim lesson instruction or something equitable.
  • Ability to perform & instruct aquatic classes.
