Job Summary

Primary Function:
Full time (20) hours per week position as Placer Hills Union School District transportation mechanic, assigned to work at the District Office. Responsible for completing inspections, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosing problems, and performing basic and advanced mechanical service and repair work for both diesel and gasoline powered district automotive vehicles, district maintenance equipment and district school buses. Keep required records of work performed on each vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Five years of progressively skilled vehicle repair experience, the majority of which involves service and repair of diesel powered vehicles and equipment or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Possession of personal set of basic tools
Ability to organize and maintain a timely schedule of necessary repairs to buses
Ability to use manual and computerized diagnostic test methods
Ability to work efficiently and effectively under minimal direct supervision
Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all other transportation department and maintenance department employees
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, design and advisory data and information
Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding tires, depth, repair and replacement.

Desirable Qualifications:
Formal Certification or Mechanic License (ASE, Wyotech, etc.)
Knowledge of:
Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair of school buses and automotive equipment.
Preventative maintenance
Laws related to school transportation, repairs and maintenance
Safe driving practices
Computer skills
Ability to:
Exercise discretion and good judgment in a variety of situations
Evaluate or assess data using established criteria and determine actual or probable consequences
Work with CHP on

Requirements / Qualifications

Ability to pass a Criminal justice fingerprint clearance and drug test
? TB clearance
? Commercial Class B License (Training Available)
? Air Brakes endorsement (Training Available)
