Job Summary

​​The Vice President of Data Engineering is a senior technology executive responsible for defining and executing the enterprise operational and analytical data strategy within a highly regulated, data-intensive financial environment. This leader will architect modern data platforms, create data solutions for AI/ML use cases, and ensure the organization can leverage advanced analytics, generative AI, and automation to drive growth, reduce risk, and enhance customer experiences. This role requires deep expertise in financial data ecosystems, regulatory expectations, and the unique demands of real-time, high-integrity data processing that underpin financial products and services.​


 

Essential Job Functions
  • ​Develop and own the enterprise data roadmap, including operational and analytical data platforms with support for structured and unstructured data and data distribution for internal applications including AI use cases, external client and regulatory reporting and enabling data products on the platform. - (25%)
  • ​Lead the design and evolution of cloud-based data platforms supporting real-time decisioning, reporting, and advanced analytics​ and oversee data ingestion, enrichment, transformation and governance for structured, unstructured, and streaming financial data. - (20%)
  • ​Build and lead high-performing teams across data engineering, MLOps, and analytics engineering​ - (20%)
  • Collaborate with data science teams to implement best-in-class MLOps and DataOps practices and accelerate deployment while maintaining model integrity and compliance. - (15%)
  • ​​Serve as a thought leader on data platform build and architecture and data trends shaping the financial services landscape and collaborate across the enterprise to align data initiatives with strategic priorities​. ​ - (10%)
  • Translate complex technical concepts into business-aligned narratives for executive stakeholders and regulators.​ - (10%)

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Audit, Accounting or related field of study or equivalent, relevant work experience
  • 15+ years experience in Data engineering on AWS cloud infrastructure, AI/ML, or related technical fields​, experience with real time decisioning system, payments infrastructure, or core banking modernization
  • 12+ years direct leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or Business Administration
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or other equivalent cloud certification​

Work Environment
  • Normal office environment. As a senior leader, must work at a Bread Financial office a minimum of 6 days per month. Ability to travel 6 days a month if not located near a Bread Financial office.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% quarterly
